PowerMax-USB Laser Power Meter Sensors

Turn your PC into an advanced laser power meter

Turn your PC into an advanced laser power or energy meter with Coherent’s PowerMax USB sensors and start measuring pulsed and CW lasers of almost any power level from the UV to far IR. Windows application software reports beam power or energy, position, statistics and power trend over time.
A Power Meter on a USB Connector
PowerMax-USB sensors provide a plug-and-play laser power measurement capability directly with a PC without the need for a traditional power meter readout. The measurement circuitry typically found in a standalone meter has been reduced in size to the extent that it can now fit inside a USB connector. The circuitry and USB connector have been adapted into a “PowerMax-USB” cable that can be integrated with most Coherent power meter sensors to provide accurate power measurements with all types of CW and pulsed lasers from the UV to Far IR. PowerMax-USB sensors can also be used to measure the energy in a long laser pulse (typically >1ms) by integrating the output of a thermopile sensor.
The PowerMax-USB connector is compatible with both thermopile and optical sensors, and can display beam position when used with Coherent’s position sensing quadrant thermopiles (LM-series). The high resolution 24-bit A/D converter provides a level of measurement accuracy equivalent to that found in the top-of-the-range LabMax meter. Each sensor includes spectral compensation for accurate readings at all wavelengths.
PowerMax PC Software
PowerMax-USB power meters are controlled from the PowerMax PC application software that provides for measurements of power and long pulse energy. The software also plots power over time and the beam centroid position (with LM-series sensors), reports beam statistics including the power mean, minima, maxima and standard deviation, and can log measurement data to file. Multiple PowerMax-USB sensors can also be connected to the same PC for ratio laser power measurements.

Support for Systems Integrators
For laser system integrators and for implementations involving customer-written software, PowerMax-USB sensors incorporate a comprehensive and easily accessed command set. DLL driver supports simple ASCII host commands for remote interfacing, while National Instruments LabView drivers are supplied for easy LabView integration. For embedded applications, a PowerMax-RS sensor is available on which the USB interface is replaced by a serial RS-232 connector.
