Measurement Services

Measurement Services

Pro-Lite provides a responsive and cost effective service for the generation of standard "photometric data" (IES and EULUMDAT formats) and the measurement of the flux, intensity, illuminance, luminance and colour of luminaires, lamps, LEDs and solid state lighting. Also, contract testing of LEDs and lamps for the generation of Radiant Source Model files (rs8 format) for illumination design.

Integrating Sphere Measurements

Integrating Sphere Measurements

Integrating spheres are capable of measuring the total light output of lamps, LEDs, luminaires and LED clusters. Pro-Lite provides in-house contract measurements using 25cm or 1m diameter integrating sphere spectroradiometers. Measurement parameters are:

  • Spectral radiant flux (Watts per nm, 350 ... 1000nm)
  • Luminous flux (lumens)
  • Radiant flux (Watts)
  • Chromaticity, Cx Cy, u' v'
  • Correlated colour temperature (Kelvin)
  • Dominant wavelength (nm) and purity
  • Peak, centre, centroid wavelength (nm)
  • Bandwidth, FWHM (nm)
  • Colour rendering, CRI (Ra)

Spectroradiometer Software

Spectroradiometer Measurements

Pro-Lite's JAZ ULM 200 Light Meter from Ocean Optics performs accurate measurements of light source spectral irradiance from 350 to 1000nm. Illuminance, luminous intensity, chromaticity, colour temperature and colour rendering are also computed.

  • Spectral irradiance (Watts per sq. meter per nm, 350 ... 1000nm)
  • Illuminancce (lux)
  • Luminous intensity (candelas)
  • Chromaticity, Cx Cy, u' v'
  • Correlated colour temperature (Kelvin)
  • Dominant wavelength (nm) and purity
  • Peak, centre, centroid wavelength (nm)
  • Bandwidth, FWHM (nm)
  • Colour rendering, CRI (Ra)

Imaging Sphere

Imaging Sphere Measurements

The Imaging Sphere™ from Radiant Imaging is the fastest angular light measurement instrument available today. It captures the full 2π hemispherical angular luminous intensity and colour variation of small light sources (e.g. LEDs) in seconds. For displays, the Imaging Sphere rapidly measures view angle as well as luminance and colour variation with direction of view. The Imaging Sphere also functions as a high speed BRDF scatterometer, characterising the reflectance and transmittance properties of material in seconds. Measurement parameters are:

  • Luminous intensity vs.angle
  • Luminance vs. angle
  • View angle
  • Chromaticity vs. angle
  • Colour temperature vs. angle
  • Reflective scatter, BRDF
  • Transmissive scatter, BTDF.

Nrear-Field Goniophotometer

Goniophotometer Measurements

Standard "photometric" data in IES and EULUMDAT formats for traditional luminaires as well as solid state ligthing (SSL) are provided using Pro-Lite's PM-NFMS near-field goniophotometer. Measurements are available on luminaires up to 1.6m (linear), 60 x 60cm (2D) and weighinh up to 25kg.

  • Standard "photometric" data
  • Luminous intensity (candelas) versus angle over a complete hemisphere
  • Colour temperature versus angle
  • Data formats: IES (.ies); EULUMDAT (.ltd); & Radiant Sourec Model (.rs8)
  • Light output ratio
  • Integrated luminous flux (lumens)

ProMetric Imaging Photometer

Imaging Photometer Measurement

ProMetric CCD Imaging Photometers are digital cameras which provide calibrated measurements of the spatial light variation from light sources. Compared to traditional "spot" photometers, a ProMetric photometer measures the brightness at millions of locations on the light source. ProMetric cameras are used to measure a wide range of sources, including flat panel displays, LEDs, automotive instrument clusters, traffic signals and signs, interior lighting and automotive headlamp performance. Pro-Lite's PM-1423E-1 camera is a tristimulus-response photometer with 1536 x 1024 pixels. Measurement services are provided both in-house and on-site. Rental of the equipment is also offered.

  • Luminance (cd/m2)
  • Spatial luminance (cd/m2)
  • Luminous intensity (cd)
  • Illuminance (lux)
  • Spatial illuminance (lux)
  • CIE chromaticity (Cx Cy, u' v')
  • Correlated colour temperature, CCT (K).

Radiant Source Model of an LED Downlighter Luminaire

Radiant Source Model Measurements

Radiant Source models provide real-life light angular luminous intensity source data as input to optical design and ray tracing programmes, greatly improving their accuracy. Our library of Radiant Source Models takes in incandescent, discharge, fluorescent, high pressure sodium, xenon and tungsten halogen lamps as well as LEDs and LED clusters from all of the leading international brands. For a current list of available source models, click here (registration is required). If you don't see the lamp or LED you are interested in using listed, we provide a measurement service.

Spectralon Standards

Reflectance & Transmittance Measurements

Using a research-grade UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer for the 250-2500nm range and an FTIR spectrometer for the 2.5-15.0µm range, we can provide measurements of diffuse, specular and total reflectance and transmittance and transmittance. Measurements of reflectance versus angle are also available. Reflectance measurements are made with reference to NIST traceable standards. For a list of available measurements, please refer to the recalibration page.
