Continuously adjustable luminance over a 2 inch port area

The Labsphere USS-600 uniform light source is based upon a 6 inch integrating sphere and provides continuously adjustable luminance with high uniformity over a 2 inch exit ports area. Small area uniform light sources are commonly used to test and calibrate imaging photometers and CCD cameras, small remote sensing instruments and telespectroradiometers.

The 6 inch source is offered in two versions. The USS-600S employs a 35 Watt tungsten halogen lamp mounted with a 3 inch satellite sphere. A manually adjusted iris mounted between the main and satellite spheres provides for continuous luminance adjustment from 15 to 2,800 cd/m2. The USS-600C also employs a 35 Watt tungsten halogen lamp mounted in a 3 inch satellite sphere, but luminance adjustment is from zero to 2,100 cd/m2 and is made by means of a motorised variable attenuator. At peak luminance, uniformity across the full area of the exit port is 98%.

The lamp used in the USS-600 burns at a correlated colour temperature of 3,000 Kelvin. Each system is supplied with a current regulated lamp power supply and a calibrated photometer that records the luminance from the sphere and displays this reading in cd/m2. All spheres are supplied with a sturdy extruded aluminium frame for bench use. The lamp power supply and monitor photometer are mounted in a separate rack. Optional calibrations include measurements of the source illuminance, spectral radiance (300-2400nm) and integrated radiance. Luminance uniformity mappings of the sphere are also available, both spatial and angular.
