SIG-500 Source Imaging Goniophotometer

The Radiant Imaging SIG-500 is a fully automated, computer-controlled near-field goniometric system designed to meet the needs of designers and manufacturers of large light sources and luminaires, with a field of view of up to 400 x 400mm. In particular, the SIG-500 is a lower cost option for applications where the source is not required to be fixed with respect to gravity, as with some arc lamps, but rather can be held horizontally and rotated with respect to gravity.
The SIG-500 uses a PM-Series imaging colorimeter or photometer to capture an accurate model of a light source's near-field output. This SIG also differs from other models in the range in that the imaging colorimeter is stationary and not attached to the goniometer, making it easy to use the colorimeter for other stand-alone measurements. The image data and the Radiant Source Model generated from it provide a complete and precise characterisation of the light source output, which can be used for design evaluation and imported into any major optical design package to allow accurate design of lighting systems.
The SIG-500 embodies the accumulated design knowledge acquired through Radiant's development of multiple generations of Source Imaging Goniometers, as well as over a decade of experience in measuring near-field distributions. Each component of the system - the goniometer, the imaging colorimeter, and the control software - is designed to work together to achieve the level of measurement precision required for near-field models that can be reliably used in optical design software.
The SIG-500 captures and aggregates images and flux measurements from thousands of angular viewpoints around a light source to precisely characterise the source's near-field output. SIG-500 measurement set-up and control is performed using SIG 1.0 software, which organises the measurement set-up, automates the data collection process, and manages the resulting data.
The measurement data collected by the SIG-500 is formatted as a Radiant Source Model (RSM) file, which is compatible with ProSource software. RSMs contain all of the measurement information, including the image data, so the measurement results can be reviewed in detail at any time. In addition, ray sets containing an arbitrary number of rays can be generated by ProSource for export to other optical and illumination system design software packages such as ASAP, FRED, LightTools, LucidShape, Opticad, OSLO, SimuLux, SPEOS, TracePro, and Zemax, as well as general file formats.
SIG systems now have the capability to measure spectral data together with intensity data, allowing for the generation and export of spectral ray sets for applications where colour or wavelength-depended optical effects are critical. Because the RSM is a complete description of the light source, it can be used to generate and regenerate ray sets at will - smaller numbers of rays for rough design and a large number of rays for final design - making the overall design process more efficient and accurate.
