CS-200 Luminance Spectral Colorimeter

An affordable spot colorimeter with near-spectroradiometric accuracy

The CS-200 from Konica Minolta functions as a portable luminance colorimeter with SLR optics and a selectable 1.0, 0.2 & 0.1° field of view. Uniquely, the CS-200 uses a spectral detector system that approaches the accuracy of a true spectroradiometer but with the price and convenience of a colorimeter. This makes the CS-200 especially well suited to measuring the colour of LCDs and LEDs.

Innovative Spectral Detection System

The CS-200 differs from ordinary tristimulus luminance colorimeters (such as the CS-100A) in its use of a detection system which comprises a diffraction grating with 40-element photodiode array. The RGB filtered detectors used in ordinary colorimeters provides high accuracy with incandescent lights, but the narrow spectral emissions from LED and LCD sources can lead to significant errors. In contrast, the CS-200 retains its high accuracy regardless of the spectral power distribution of the device under test. For the majority of applications, the near-spectroradiometric accuracy and colorimeter-like ease of use and affordability of the CS-200 make it the instrument of choice.

Advanced Features & Capabilities

The CS-200 features a selectable field of view of 1°, 0.2° and 0.1° which means that distant as well as close up objects can be measured, including LCD pixels and the very smallest instrument panel legends and LED indicators. Additional close-up lenses are also available which reduce the minimum spot size down to ø0.1 mm. An automatic setting allows the CS-200 to operate with an optimum measurement speed, providing luminance measurements from 0.01 to 20,000,000 cd/m² (with 1° field of view). The CS-200 is compact and portable, and is powered from 4 x AA batteries or an AC mains adaptor.

Data Management Software

The CS-S10w software is supplied as standard with the CS-200. In conjunction with the USB interface, the standard edition software allows users to control the CS-200 from a PC and to display a list of the measured data. The data can be transferred to a spreadsheet application. The optional CS-S10w Professional software provides additional data management, analysis and evaluation capabilities.
